Nasacort AQ General Information

Nasacort AQ is a prescription medication that is approved to treat the symptoms of both seasonal and year round nasal allergies. Some of these symptoms are runny nose, congestion, sneezing, and itching nasal passages.

How Does Nasacort AQ Work?

Nasacort AQ is a corticosteroid. Any steroid acts as an anti-inflammatory and the way in which they lessen inflammation is to inhibit the ability of the body to create an immune system reaction. The effects of the corticosteroid in Nasacort are limited to the nose and keep the body from reacting to the histamines that cause an allergic reaction.

When and How Should Nasacort AQ Be Taken?

Nasacort AQ should be taken by spraying it into the nostrils once a day. You should shake the bottle vigorously before spraying. It is a good idea to blow your nose well before spraying. Be sure to breathe in while spraying the Nasacort, but do not breath in so deeply that it is taken into the throat or lungs. You should also try to spray away from the septum between the nostrils. Spraying onto the septum may cause nosebleeds.

It is recommended that adults help children use the medicine.

Most people do not experience side effects and if they do, they are usually mild and don't require treatment of any type or are easily treated. The most common side effects of Nasacort AQ are:
